The problem is when people spend $$$$ on the wrong thing. If you are going
to spend $$$ on a Ventilator or a high end clone, but playing it through
crappy amplification, where does that get you? You are much better off
investing in a good amplification system right off the bat.

It’s like buying an IPhone. Yes it is cool with a lot of great features, but
ever try to make a call on AT&T?

I cannot agree more with this comment. Anytime you stick a piece of ³pro²
gear in your signal chain that is inferior in audio quality, you are
debilitating your sound. How much money do you have invested in the actual
keyboards in your live or studio rig? I would guess that there is nothing
in it that was purchased because it was inexpensive. Cheap gear is NOT a
bargain. I think I added comment a few weeks back in a thread about rack
mount mixers. My Ashly mixer has been in my rack for over 5 years, with a
Roland M120 owned for many years prior. Iıve owned a pair of Barbetta 31ıs
for a little bit longer and these are pieces of gear that will probably
keep in my setup for many more years.. How many of us can say that about the
actual keyboards we currently have in our arsenal? . Dependable great
sounding gear isnıt inexpensive, but a bargain when you consider how much
value a quality piece offers you - something that you will use for many,
many years because it sounds great and is built with quality components. I
remember going out on training sessions with my ex-boss and pitching
Harman Professional or Audiotechnica products or whatever line we had at the
time. His analogy was simple - ³Hey, I just bought a brand new set of golf
clubs for $49.99. The shafts arenıt true, but look at the price I paid!² Or
my favorite I just bought a digital camera for $49.95. The lens doesnıt
focus well, but....you get the picture? I realize that a lot of us are
watching our pennies closely and trying to make purchase decisions as wisely
as one can, but settling for something that is a detriment to your personal
sound is something that is the wrong path to take. Thatıs my lesson for
today:)

Mark

However, I cannot stress enough the need for a quality sound
amplification system. This is where you should spend your $$$. For
years I used mediocre amps (Mackie, Roland, etc) and this really hurt
the overall sound of my rig. Now that I have jumped to the EV system
with the AMA, a whole new sonic world has opened up for me. Even if
you have a Ventilator, if you are playing it through crap, you will
probably hear crap.
