Subject:RE: Speakeasy mini leslie/+ drums/tone - slightly OT

Depends on your gigging environment. Since we are only playing in environments where EVERYTHING is mic'd up and cranking through a huge PA, this is not silly by any means.

Think of it like this: if were playing in our present environs, and our presentation (Pink Floyd, etc., very finely recorded and played music) is as it is, playing in a basement with Princeton amps, etc., it's like going to batting practice with a Fungo. The Fungo has its place, but since our presentation is very reliant on sonic placement, we're doing what we need to do to make sure we give the best possible aural presentation possible.

Our drummer sounds fantastic unmic'd; he's trying to ensure that the audience hears what he's projecting, and practice is the place to perfect that, especially since he has the equipment to do it.

As a keyboard player, you should respect that, assuming your playing environments require being mic'd and mixed by another party. If your environment is nothing like that, then you really won't understand what he's doing. (But I suspect you have been mic'd many times.)

But thank you for your observation.

I have played with many good drummers, many times unmiked... And somehow
they sound pretty damn good to me...
