Subject:OT: Presonus "Eurkea"
Hi Folks,
Just wanted to pass on some info to y'all - after much experimentation
with different premaps/compressors etc, I've settled on the Presonus
"Eurkea" channel strip as a general "pass through" for all of my
stuff. The premap section is *excellent*. While maybe not as fat as a
true tube sound, it definately does the job in terms of increasing the
gain of the signal to the amp; it has a saturation control if you want
a *hint* of dirt. It also has an excellent compressor and parametric
EQ in the chain. These can be disabled if need be.
This one box has added so much to the sound of all my keyboars; I run
a moderate amount of gain on the preamp, and light compression/EQ. It
has seriously made me rethink if I even want to contend with getting
on the whole "tube preamp" bandwagon.
At less than $500 list, it is more than proving to be a much better
investment than anything else so far.
(BTW, I play everything from ELP to YES to The Allman Brotheres! So My
sound is quite varied - maybe that's why the "overall best comprimise"
solution works so well for me...just my .02, of course!)
Of course, YMMV. But you should all give it a try!
Cheers!
Tom
