Subject:WS-540 lube job?

I bought a Quik-Lok WS-540 at a good price on eBay, which arrived
today, supposed to be new and looks it. I don't know if maybe they
tried something really heavy on top first or what. But to pull the legs
open is almost impossible, thought I was going to wrench a muscle. I
had to put the center piece on the floor with my foot on one side and
pull up as hard as I could to get one leg slowly open an inch at time
so finally they were angled out like this >-<. What in the heck??? Is
there a "best" lubricant that would mybe get this this stand to open
normally - I didn't have any problem with the WS-550 I got before. And
the WS-540 is really a much better size for my keyboards, good support
of more than 2/3 width under a Fantom, Electro '73, Roland VK. Help!
TIA ~ Wj
