Subject:Re: my introduction and asking for advice
Well, I own both a CX-3 and an Electro rack. I have to say, I
really, really prefer the sound of the CX over the Electro. I know,
I'm a total heretic in this group, but I just feel like the Electro
is lacking something. If you have a Motif for EP's (Vintage 74 on
that thing...wow), you're pretty much set.
What I really like about the CX is the ability to dial in your sound,
even down to silly things like the whir of tonewheels. I like a
noisy, raw sort of organ sound, I like C3 to be obnoxious, and C2 to
be usable. Something about the chorus and overall sound around the
basic sine wave/tonewheel sound on the Electro fails to grab me.
Yes, the CX is a little shrill in the high end, but with a speakeasy,
or the mellow DB settings in the CX v2, it's quite a bit better. Oh,
and let's not forget 2 sets of drawbars, and a great user interface.
Yes, it's heavier than an Electro, but it's not really that bad.
It's sturdy through windmill chops, I can tell you that...I don't
worry about it flying off the top of my Rhodes.
So, even though I own an Electro, I'm not being swayed from loving my
CX-3 after 18 months. That being said, the EPs on the Electro are
amazing, and Acoustic Piano 4 is probably my new favorite because
it's got some serious character to it.
YMMV, but for your situation, I'd say go for a CX-3.
