Subject:New Al Kooper CDs


For all the Al Kooper fans out there be sure to pick up the two new CD's
"Live at the Fillmore East" and the remastered "Super Session".

"Live..." features some amazing guitar work from Mike Bloomfield and
Johnny Winters. JW was introduced as a special guest and was immediately
signed by Columbia (with execs in the audience) after this kick-ass
performance in NYC.

Kooper uses a Hammond either straight into an amp or through a stopped
Leslie. He also uses some strange effects (maybe some type of rotosphere
or something, beats me). The drummer has a very difficult time with this
band, which is probably why the tapes sat for so many years. But the
musicianship of Kooper, Bloomfield, and Winters makes up for all this.
Kooper's comping is, as usual, superb.

I will be listening to the Super Sessions CD tonight.
