Subject:RE: Leslie motors OK - Question about speaker

I yanked the old Pyle Driver out of my road Leslie and replaced it with a
top notch JBL 2220B, which is one of the best 15" speakers one can have in
their Leslie (IMHO). While I agree the Pyle is akin to a Pile o' Sh*t, I
don't think it is a car speaker--it looks like a cheap replacement speaker
for pro audio. I cannot tell if it is 16 ohm or not. I wonder if it has
any resale value???

After completely working over the motors and giving the thing a good
cleaning, the road Leslie is totally screaming. It was full of muck and
guck. Inside the horn's mount where the stock Jensen screws in, I found 2
loose wingnuts and a couple of cigarette butts, along with an immense load
of oily, hairy mess. It was a nasty job, but someone had to do it. It is
now fully operational and ready to rock and roll. I forgot to mention that
this has built in mic cables and padded foam cut to hold mikes in place in
the rear upper and lower covers. There are XLRs built in. All I need to do
is place 2 mics in there, and I'm in good shape (although I will probably
leave the covers off on the gig so I can see the spinning things.

Pyle Driver made Musical Instrument Speakers 20 years ago or so. I
don't know if they still do or not. MCM electronics sold the 12" MI
speakers as a stock replacement Fender Twin Reverbs. I thought Fender
used Eminence speakers back then, maybe I misunderstood their
marketing speak. MCM also sold the 15" and the 4x10 horns put out by
Pyle. I used their horns in some homemade stage monitors I built
around 1980. They were functional but they sure were not EV quality
either.

They were a very inexpensive speaker. I don't know if that
corresponded to low quality or not. However guess it often does.
