Subject:Check out my new road Leslie - Chopped 122RV

Hey friends,

I'm the proud owner of something I've been wanting for a long time - a true
road Leslie. I've always been skittish to carry my minty 122 Leslie out of
the house, but yet always crave the real thing...especially with the
Speakeasy preamp. A guy I know had told me about a beat up Leslie he had in
his warehouse but he was never willing to sell it until now. I went out and
picked it up today.

This is quite an interesting Leslie. Not much is known about when it was
chopped for the road, but it appears to have started life as a full blown
122RV. It has the 122RV sticker on it, plus the extra louvers on the sides
that signify an RV cabinet. It was chopped short in the middle by 8", so it
is 33" tall rather than 41". It looks just like a 142 or 145 at first
glance, with extra louvers on the side. It has recessed handles and ball
corners. Whoever chopped it did a very clean job and the seam where it is
glued together is barely noticeable. The fact that it is painted black and
all beat up helps obscure the chop job as well.

So we have a 122RV cabinet chopped down to 142 dimensions. The other
interesting thing is that all the RV components are not in there, which is
fine with me. It also has a 147 amplifier rather than the 122. So it is a
mixed breed Leslie, but very cool. Here are photos I just uploaded to the
files section:

I notice that the top rotor cavity is 1" taller than a regular 122. I
presume this is due to the extra room needed for the RV section. I'm
curious to know if there is much sound difference (I have not yet done an
A/B comparison with my stock 122).

This Leslie is functional but the slow motors need some work. I will post a
separate question about that.
