Subject:Re: What would you improve/solve in the B4 ?
I am a RABID B4 user and advocated. I love the program
and I am picky as hell. Please pass this on.
Now...for the things I would like to see different:
1. The 838000000 setting, which is the standard jazz
second manual setting is a little...muddy in the high
end. Listen to any Joey DeFrancesco record and you
will hear what I mean. It needs to be a little more
transparent when comping chords and such. It's too
thick right now.
2. The pedal tones are way way way too weak. They are
unusable in a live setting. I should be able to kick a
pedal tone, comp with my left hand on the second
manual and solo with my right hand on the top and have
all three tones be close to equal. That's not possible
on the B4. The pedal is too weak.
3. Like all clones, the top octave of the B4 when
using the "Jimmy Smith" (888000000, 3rd perc, C3
chorus) is a tad harsh. Listen to a real B-3 top
end...it's not piercing...somehow it's nice and warm
and ballsy.
4. Onboard reverb. 'Nuff said.
Those are the things I can come up with off the top of
my head.
Another suggestion I would have, if they haven't done
this already, is listen to a few records to get the
right sound. My suggestions:
"The Champ Volume 1" - Joey DeFrancesco. This record
covers ALL of the perfect jazz settings. This record
is a blueprint for jazz organ and for the settings.
"Back To Oakland" - Tower of Power. R&B organ settings
at their finest.
I pick these records not because of the playing, so
much, but for the sound of the organ. These, in my
opinion, are the PERFECT sounds of the B-3. I'm sure
others might think different, but for what I use the
B4 for, I want it to sound like this.
Again, please pass along my thanks to the engineers
for this wonderful piece. I will certainly be
purchasing the upgrade when it's ready.
